Kitchen Cabinetry To Match Modern Anthropology

Remodeling kitchen cabinets improves design and function.  Kitchen cabinetry has a rich history with many advances in the 20th century.  Before the First World War kitchens had free standing tables for work space and the dishes were normally stored in the dining room.  Post WWI there was an increasing effort to improve kitchen form and function.  Due in part to the industrial revolution Kitchen cabinets were more easily mass produced.  After WW II advances in technology continued to evolve the look and function of modern designed kitchens.  “In the United States countertops of high pressure laminates such as Formica became popular. Laminates led to the adoption of a seamless flush-surface kitchen look that is almost universal today, though laminates themselves are often replaced today by synthetic solid surface materials or (in more expensive installations) natural stone.” (Wikipedia.com, 2010)

During the 1960′s, 70′s, and 80′s installing Formica countertops and built-in cabinetry was enough to have a modern kitchen.  Today however, architects and Sarasota remodeling specialists have to study modern anthropology to design kitchens that match people’s habits and lifestyles.  For example, modern architecture and kitchen remodeling now emphasize entertaining and social interaction as much as form and function.  In the past kitchens were often walled off from dining and living areas isolating those in the kitchen from the rest of the family or party.  Now the trend is moving toward incorporating more open spaces between dining rooms and kitchen areas.  Words like great room and spacious design are synonymous with 21st century kitchen remodeling.

Post modern designs offer 9ft. ceilings in place of the former closed in 8ft. ceilings.  Other modern trends are incorporating multiple ovens and various other modern appliances to make the kitchen even more functional.  Integrating modern trends and remodeling techniques into kitchen design will continue to be a part of U.S. culture and architecture.  To read more articles on remodeling techniques visit markestesremodeling.com.
