Resume help……….?
My resume is based mostly around my experience as a musician..handling equipment, performing at various places, how long i’ve been playing.. etc
I have my highlights of qualifications : reliable, punctual, self motivated etc and my education and volunteer experience on there also, but no real job experience.
If i’m going to be handing these out at
grocery stores, clothing stores, book stores, restaurants and any other places for a part time job would this music experience be completely irrelevant? Or is any experience good? How could I go about changing my resume to fit all sorts of places if I don’t have the experience to back it up?
Please + Thanks!
No the music isn’t irrelevant – keep it because it IS experience! Experience is valuable and you DO have to start somewhere. Also, it is good that you added your qualities. Since you don’t have any experiences in retail and customer service, why don’t you make a cover letter for each place you’re applying. The cover letter could also be personally addressed to the manager, that is showing you took an EXTRA step. (You could ask a staff member for the manager’s name) In the cover letter you could mention your eagerness to be a part of their company as you see that it would be a great start for your career and to build experiences.
Then follow it up with a short resume. Objective, Education, Experience, Volunteer/Extra-Curricular Activities, Qualities/Skills, References available upon request.
